About Montagist
Montagist is an AI video studio that lets one person make documentary-grade explainer videos: sourced research, real footage instead of slides, and your call at every gate — with your footage and finished videos kept on your own Mac.
Why we built it
One-prompt video tools are fast, but no one checks where the numbers come from, or whether the result is just a slideshow. Montagist goes the other way: a little slower, but every fact has a source, every gate is your call, and the slideshow feel is designed out before production starts.
Three principles
Real footage
Footage from real sources, with pacing checked at the storyboard — never a deck of slides.
Real sources
Every number, name and date in the video has a source in the fact ledger, and anyone can open it and check.
Your call
Nothing gets past any of the five gates until you approve it. Step in at any point and it follows your note.
A person always makes the call
Montagist never passes a gate or publishes for you. AI does the work, puts it in front of you and records what you decide. Approving, spending money and posting are always up to you.
What is open source
The Montagist skill for AI assistants is MIT-licensed. Mac app installers are on the download page. The Mac app and the cloud service are not open source.
