How to get your DeepSeek API key

In Montagist, your DeepSeek key is used for the AI steps — topic, fact ledger, capture plan, script and storyboard (you can pick a model per step in settings).

Where to get it

Open the DeepSeek key pageplatform.deepseek.com/api_keys

Before you start

  • Calls need a balance. Mainland China accounts must complete real-name verification before topping up; use whichever payment methods the top-up page offers.

Create the key

  1. Sign in to the DeepSeek platform and open the API keys page.
  2. Create a new key and name it Montagist.
  3. Copy the key and paste it into Montagist right away — you may not be able to see the full key again after closing the dialog.

Connect it to Montagist

  1. In Montagist, open Settings › Connections › Models and find the DeepSeek card.
  2. Paste the key.
  3. Click Test connection: it runs in the cloud and shows the result and timing, with a plain explanation if it fails.
