How to get your Google Gemini API key

In Montagist, your Google Gemini key is used for the AI steps — topic, fact ledger, capture plan, script and storyboard (you can pick a model per step in settings).

Where to get it

Open the Google Gemini key pageaistudio.google.com/apikey

Before you start

  • Mainland China and Hong Kong are not among the regions where the Gemini API is available.
  • The first time you open Google AI Studio and accept the terms, a project and a key are created for you.

Create the key

  1. Open the API keys page in Google AI Studio.
  2. Use the default key or click Create API key for a new one.
  3. Copy the key and paste it into Montagist.

Connect it to Montagist

  1. In Montagist, open Settings › Connections › Models and find the Google Gemini card.
  2. Paste the key; Montagist recognizes the provider from how the key starts.
  3. Click Test connection: it runs in the cloud and shows the result and timing, with a plain explanation if it fails.
