How to get your OpenRouter API key

In Montagist, your OpenRouter key is used for the AI steps — topic, fact ledger, capture plan, script and storyboard (you can pick a model per step in settings).

Where to get it

Open the OpenRouter key pageopenrouter.ai/keys

Before you start

  • Paid models are charged to your OpenRouter balance.

Create the key

  1. Sign in to OpenRouter and open the Keys page.
  2. Create a key named Montagist; you can set a credit limit while you're there.
  3. Copy the key and paste it into Montagist.

Connect it to Montagist

  1. In Montagist, open Settings › Connections › Models and find the OpenRouter card.
  2. Paste the key; Montagist recognizes the provider from how the key starts.
  3. Click Test connection: it runs in the cloud and shows the result and timing, with a plain explanation if it fails.
