How to get your Zhipu GLM (Z.ai) API key

In Montagist, your Zhipu GLM (Z.ai) key is used for the AI steps — topic, fact ledger, capture plan, script and storyboard (you can pick a model per step in settings).

Where to get it

Open the Zhipu GLM (Z.ai) key pagez.ai/manage-apikey/apikey-list

Before you start

  • Usage is billed, so top up first. The mainland site does not require real-name verification for API calls.

Create the key

  1. Sign in to the Zhipu platform (bigmodel.cn in mainland China, z.ai internationally) and open API Keys in your account center.
  2. Create a new key.
  3. Copy the key and paste it into Montagist.

Connect it to Montagist

  1. In Montagist, open Settings › Connections › Models and find the Zhipu GLM (Z.ai) card.
  2. Paste the key.
  3. Choose the mainland China or international endpoint — whichever matches the site where you created the key.
  4. Click Test connection: it runs in the cloud and shows the result and timing, with a plain explanation if it fails.
